Technology & Sustainable Fashion

Technology is sure to be a part of the solution to reducing clothes waste & making fashion more sustainable – we had 2 great presentations on the day from The Nu Wardrobe founder Aisling Byrne who shared her passion as being “on a mission to change the fashion industry for the better” Find out more here about The Nu Wardrobe works

similar way as Tinder… but you swap clothes, not ‘dates. Swapsy will be free to
download and aims to help people exchange clothes and accessories with people
local to them. More broadly we aim to help make swapping clothes mainstream –
making the circular economy both accessible and enjoyable.” Download it here once its released

Whilst they didn’t present at the Festival, it would be a shame to miss out Vinted “Sell and buy second-hand wardrobe items. List what you don’t wear and sell for free!” Vinted look to be very much the new cool kid on the block when it comes to reselling unloved clothes!

Swishing

The Festival wouldn’t have been the same without Betsy’s Closet Swap Shop running the fantastic Clothes Swap on the first floor. Following the Festival of Sustainable Fashion last November , our Swish partner Betsy’s Closet Swap Shop will be hosting another clothes swap at the Fair Fashion Fair Sunday, 28 April 2019 from 11:00-16:00

We upcycled a whopping 247Kg of clothing at the event – what better result than doing good for the Environment and grabbing a new outfit can you get at a Fashion event?!?!

Sustainable Threads – Fashion Roundtable & the sustainable clothing revolution.

On the Sustainable Threads stage we discussed sustainability in the luxury market with Kresse, the owner of luxury brand Elvis & Kresse, and Britta Von Basedow, Couture Designers & Senior Creative Pattern Cutter. From eco textiles like Pineapple leather to reused firehose the future of Fashion is Green. Our concluding message from Kresse was to apply the concept “be an awesome human” to all our fashion making decisions. With every decision you make, how can we each take responsibility to be an awesome human, to each other, to our communities and to the earth.

Fashion Roundtable

Our afternoon panel Q&A was hosted by Fashion Roundtable founder, Tamara Cincik. An in-depth and inspiring Q&A with Jodi from Black Neon Digital, fashion revolutionary JJ from Noki, Rafaella from Fashion Roundtable  and Zero Waste blogger Pip Sadler. 

What came across form both these discussions is the need to share ideas & keep the conversation going So when it comes to Sustainable Fashion share your thoughts, your ideas, your concerns and your solutions! Let’s keep the conversation going & send us your inspirational stories & share eco Fashion faves over on our Sustainable Threads Facebook group.
